Modern lifestyle factors like excessive screen time contribute to facial pigmentation as well. Blue light from phones, laptops, and tablets generates oxidative stress in the skin. While less intense than UV radiation, long-term exposure may still stimulate melanin production, especially on the face. Combined with stress and lack of skincare protection, this makes digital exposure a growing concern for facial darkening.
Psychological stress itself can worsen pigmentation. Chronic stress affects hormones, weakens the skin barrier, and increases inflammation, all of which contribute to darkening. When people are stressed, they may also neglect skincare, sleep poorly, and eat unhealthy foods, creating a cycle that worsens facial pigmentation. This often reinforces the feeling my face is getting darker for no reason, even though stress is a major underlying factor.
